Pacific Coast Adventure: Day 3 A Brief Overview
Day three was by far my longest day yet. I woke up at 3:20am, ten minutes before my alarm and was out of my hostel just before 4am to begin the drive down to San Francisco. Most people I spoke with that day, when I told them I was going to San Francisco thought I was crazy. It was a really long drive. I didn't get to my hostel until 9pm, but of course I made some stops along the way.
My first stop was at a coffee shop. And for those of you who know me well, I hate coffee. I got this white chocolate mocha and it was so good. The young woman at the coffee shop was super sweet too. I forget the name now, but I still have the cup in my car, so I'll be sure to let you know later. It was a drive through coffee place in Oregon though.
Then I continued my way to the Redwood Forest. Just the entire ride there is beautiful. I could try to explain it, and I could show you a million pictures, but unless you see fi for yourself, it's hard to truly understand. It's like you go back in time to a land that was pure and free from human destruction. I went across the Redwoods towards Highway 101, hoping to eventually make it to Highway 1. Once you're out of the forest you enter this costal town and can stop to see seals laying out on old piers and rocks.
Then you drive along the coast for a bit and you can see the forest and mountains on your left hand side, and to your right you're greeted by sunshine and water. As you drive you're weaving through the mountain, but still so close to the ocean. Then all of a sudden, once you leave one stretch of the mountain you see farm land to the left and the mountains still right behind it and in front of you, but the water still to your right. I had my GoPro set up on my my to record the trip, so once I have that loaded and edited I will post it. Again though, this is something I can't even begin to explain in words as there is too much to say and I don't want to spend the day in the hostel typing.
After a while, you have the option to pull off and take a 25 mile detour through the Avenue of the Giants! Well worth the detour! You continue going through the trees, but on paved road.
A while later I was heading to Highway 1. The only plan I had made on this trip was to ride along the coast. Well thanks to landslides and crazy weather. Most of Highway 1 has been closed. At least, that's what the sign and Google told me when I looked. I stopped at a coffee shop and came up with a new game plan for the day. I booked a hostel in San Francisco and made my way there by 9pm.
There is so much more I want to say, but I'll get to all that later. This world truly amazes me!
